Sleeping Beauty - Principal Lead

Our Princess is kind, clever, and courageous, with a flair for drama and a heart full of charm. She is the star of the story, beautiful in every sense, yet also witty, spirited, and delightfully mischievous.

This performer must balance grace and poise with strong comedic timing, as pantomime demands quick reactions, confident joke delivery, and lively interaction with both the audience and fellow cast members. A warm stage presence, expressive performance style, and the ability to lead big musical or ensemble moments are essential.

Prince - Principal Lead

The Prince is arrogant, vain, and just a little dim, blessed with royal charm but cursed with unstoppable overconfidence. He considers himself heroic, handsome, and utterly irresistible, though the audience quickly realises he’s far more full of hot air than wisdom.

This role requires excellent comic timing, strong physical comedy, and the confidence to fully embrace the character’s ridiculous self-importance. The performer should be comfortable playing to the audience, reacting to laughter, and committing wholeheartedly to exaggerated bravado.

Comic Character

Our Comic is the lovable fool of the pantomime,  loyal, energetic, and endlessly optimistic, despite being gloriously incompetent. While his intentions are always good, his efforts usually create more chaos than solutions.

He idolises the Princess, looks up to the heroes, and is utterly terrified of the villain, though he tries very hard to appear brave.

This role requires strong physical comedy, expressive reactions, and excellent audience interaction. The performer must balance silliness with sincerity, ensuring the character’s innocence and heart shine through. The audience laughs at him, but they also root for him.

Villain (Evil Character)

The Villain is the commanding, glamorous, and deliciously wicked force of the pantomime. Regal, intelligent, and theatrically dramatic, they believe they have been deeply wronged and are determined to reclaim power, status, or revenge.

This character must dominate the stage from their very first entrance and maintain that authority throughout,  even while engaging directly with the audience.

The performer must possess sharp wit, a commanding presence, and razor-sharp comic timing. Confidence, vocal strength, and the ability to relish the character’s wickedness are essential. A true scene-stealer who delights in being booed.

Dame Character

The Dame is the warm-hearted, larger-than-life maternal figure of the story. Loving, protective, and endlessly proud, she is often far more enthusiastic than competent and gloriously outspoken!

Frequently the source of chaos, confusion, and big comedic set pieces, the Dame thrives on audience interaction and bold character choices.

This role requires exceptional comic timing, improvisational confidence, and a performer unafraid of physical comedy, quick costume changes, and commanding the stage. Beneath the flamboyance, however, must be genuine warmth and heart, the Dame is as beloved as she is outrageous.

Fairy Flora

One of the three fairies, this character is the self-appointed leader of the trio. Popular, polished, and effortlessly confident, she possesses a natural authority that the others instinctively follow. She keeps the fairies on task, steers the group through chaos, and makes the final call when decisions need to be made.

Kind-hearted and genuinely loving, especially toward our Princess, she can also be firm, bossy, and commanding when necessary. Think “queen bee with a warm heart.” Her leadership comes from competence and confidence, never cruelty.

This role requires strong stage presence, excellent ensemble awareness, and sharp comedic timing. The performer must balance warmth with authority, delivering magical solutions with style, precision, and a touch of sparkle.

Fairy Clover

The intellectual of the trio, this fairy is exceptionally clever and endlessly curious. She approaches magic like a science, analysing spells, memorising ancient texts, and always thinking three steps ahead. She takes great pride in being the smartest in the room, even if others don’t always keep up.

Geeky in the most charming way, she often rambles about magical theory, technicalities, and obscure fairy regulations. However, her brilliance comes with a tendency toward agitation. She grows easily frustrated when plans go awry, when others ignore her carefully reasoned advice, or when magic is used carelessly.

Her mind moves faster than the moment, making her anxious, intense, and occasionally melodramatic. This role requires strong comic timing, quick delivery, and the ability to balance intelligence with lovable exasperation.

Fairy Lurpak

The most lighthearted of the trio, this fairy is bubbly, warm, and delightfully distracted. She means well in every situation but rarely grasps what is actually going on. Conversations soar over her head, instructions get muddled, and she often reacts just a beat too late.

She is not unintelligent, simply unfocused. Her thoughts wander, she misinterprets serious moments, and she occasionally celebrates when everyone else is concerned. There’s a gentle innocence about her, as though she lives slightly to the left of reality.

This role requires strong reactive comedy, expressive facial work, and impeccable timing, particularly in delayed reactions and unexpected enthusiasm. Beneath the whimsy must be genuine sweetness and heart, ensuring the audience adores her rather than dismisses her.
